Welcome to the

Alpenlodge

small & family-run – with spectacular views of the Matterhorn

As a boutique hotel with only a few rooms, we focus on personal service, quality, and authenticity. Here, you will find a place with soul – a home away from home.

Nestled at the edge of the forest, our tranquil location connects you directly with nature, far from the bustle and noise. Still, the heart of Zermatt—with its restaurants, shops, and cable cars—is just 15 minutes away.

our story

It all began in the Zermatt mountains…

…high in the Schönbiel Hut, a hut warden and a metalsmith/mountain guide met with a close friend and guest. Amid discussions about the future, a unique idea took shape: a place to truly feel at ease, set in nature, embraced by mountains – with an uninterrupted view of the majestic Matterhorn.

The Making of Alpenlodge

In 2005, this dream became a reality. Much of the interior and bespoke furniture was lovingly handcrafted by Willy Taugwalder — metalworker, mountain guide, and co-owner — in his own workshop, the “Zermatt Work Shop,” giving the space its unique character and authentic alpine soul.

For many years, Rosmarie Taugwalder, co-owner and manager, was the heart of Alpenlodge. With warmth, dedication, and attention to detail, she ran the hotel, cared for guests as if they were her own family, and created an atmosphere that is immediately felt.

generational
transition

In 2023, leadership was handed over to her daughter Deborah and her husband Martin. Together, we continue to lead Alpenlodge with the same dedication and warm hospitality that have always been.

Alpenlodge Construction Begins

When construction of the Alpenlodge began, today’s “Petit Village” did not yet exist. The neighborhood street had only opened a few months earlier, and the area was dotted with just a few scattered houses.

workshop "Stahlhüs"

Most of the steel and wooden furniture in the Alpenlodge was designed and handcrafted by Willy in his own workshop.

From beds and lamps to chairs, tables, and even the bar and reception, many of the pieces of furniture are unique, handcrafted creations.
